ATHENA PPF+
/ CARE GUIDE

Owner's Care Manual

Your official reference for maximizing your PPF protection film's longevity. Follow these protocols rigorously.

IMPORTANT Your PPF film's longevity fundamentally depends on care protocol rigor, particularly during the first 2 weeks. This guide covers the 3 critical preservation phases.
1

Curing Period (48h — 14 days)

Immediately after installation, the pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive is undergoing complete polymerization. This phase determines long-term adhesion quality. In cold or humid conditions (Quebec fall/winter), extend the curing period to 14 days.

No water 48h
Avoid any prolonged water exposure, rain, or washing for the first 48 hours minimum.
Don't touch edges
The adhesive is polymerizing. Any edge manipulation can compromise adhesion.
Bubbles = normal
Moisture micro-bubbles and slight haziness are normal osmotic phenomena, they'll disappear in 2-4 weeks.
Sun is welcome
Sun exposure accelerates adhesive polymerization and dissipation of residual micro-bubbles.

Permanent Washing Protocols

Washing is the #1 cause of premature PPF degradation. Correct practices extend film life. Poor practices can irreversibly damage it.

RECOMMENDED PRACTICES

  • Two-bucket method — One pH-neutral shampoo bucket, one rinse bucket with grit guard.
  • High-density microfiber mitts — Never abrasive sponges. Soft, uniform contact.
  • Blotting dry — Ultra-soft microfiber towels in blotting technique, or filtered air blower.
  • Immediate cleaning of bird droppings, sap, and bugs — Within 24-48h with warm water and PPF-safe spray.
  • Semi-annual inspection — Edge verification, PPF-specific sealant (booster) application.

Chemical Threats & Prohibitions

Biological and chemical enemies of your PPF can etch the polyurethane's molecular structure if not neutralized quickly. Using prohibited products will void the manufacturer's warranty.

PROHIBITED PRODUCTS & PRACTICES

  • Automatic brush car washes — Centrifugal force and grit in rotating brushes degrade the self-healing top coat.
  • Pressure washers closer than 30cm to edges — Primary cause of premature edge lifting.
  • Air drying — Deposits corrosive calcium minerals (water spots) particularly destructive on PPF.
  • Naphtha or kerosene-based waxes — Break the film's polymer bonds, causing yellowing and cloudiness.
  • Ammonia or acetone cleaners — Chemically attack polyurethane, voiding manufacturer warranty.
  • Abrasive polishing compounds — Irreversibly destroy the film's self-healing top coat.

Semi-Annual Preventive Maintenance

We recommend a professional inspection and decontamination cleaning every 6 months. Our VIP Mobile service comes to you for this maintenance — hydrophobic sealant (booster) application included.
